                     WORDS

"A tree is known by its fruit...For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." Jesus. Matthew 12:33-37

AN ELABORATION OF THIS TEACHING BY PETER

In The First Epistle of Peter

What God speaks:

1:11    The Spirit of Christ testified of Christ's sufferings and the glories that would follow before they happened.

1:15    God called us to be holy.

1:25    God's word endures forever

2:9       He called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

2:21    He called us to suffering.

2:22    Deceit was not found in Jesus' mouth.

2:23    Jesus did not revile or threaten with His mouth even when He was reviled and threatened by others.

3:19    Christ preached to the spirits in prison who had been disobedient.

4:6       The gospel was preached to the dead so that they could live according to God in the spirit.

5:10    God has called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus.

What evil men speak:

2:12    They speak against us as evildoers.

3:15    They ask us for a reason for the hope that is in us.

3:16    They defame us as evildoers and revile our good conduct in Christ.

4:4       They speak evil of us, thinking us strange.

4:14    They reproach, insult and reviled us for the name of Christ.

4:14    They blaspheme Christ.

What believers are to speak:

1:17    If we call on the Father, then we are to conduct ourselves in fear, knowing with what and how we were redeemed. (By the precious blood of Christ.)

2:9       We are to proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

2:15    We are to put to silence the ignorance of foolish men by doing good.

3:1       Wives are not to preach to their unbelieving husbands but are to obey the word so that, without speaking a word, the husband may be won by their conduct.

3:7       Husbands are to give understanding and honor to their wives so that their  words to God (prayers) will not be hindered.

3:9       We are to bless others instead of reviling them.

3:10    We are to refrain and restrain our tongue from evil and our lips from speaking deceit.

3:15    We are to be ready always to give a defense with a good conscience to everyone who asks us a reason for the hope that is in us so that when evildoers revile our good conduct they will be ashamed.

4:11    When we speak, we are to speak as the utterances of God so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

4:14    We are to glorify God when we are reproached, reviled or insulted for the                   name of Christ.

4:15    We are not to be a meddler or busybody in other people's matters.

4:16    We are to glorify God with no shame when we suffer as a Christian.
