HOW TO HEAR GOD SPEAK

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them,

and they follow Me.”

John 10:27

Prayer is a two-way communication with God. When Christians spend most of their prayer time talking to God, they miss the best of what God wants to give. God delights in talking with His children! It is up to us to listen!

HOW GOD SPEAKS

1.      God speaks from His dwelling place - the heart of man.  Psalm 27:8,  Hebrews 10:16

2.      God speaks through Holy Scriptures.  2 Timothy 3:16

3.      God speaks through angels.  Luke 1:11-13,  Acts 27:23

4.      God speaks in visions.  Job 33:14-18,  Acts 9:10,12

5.      God speaks in pictures. Amos 8:1, Acts 7:56

6.      God speaks in dreams.  Job 33:14-18,  Matthew 2:12

7.      God speaks in an audible voice.  Acts 9:4,7

8.      God speaks through physical sensations. Isaiah 16:11, Jeremiah 4:19

9.      God speaks through impressions. Matthew 9:36, 2 Corinthians 1:4

10.  God speaks through nature. Romans 1:20, Psalm 18:6-17, 1 Kings 19:11-13

11.  God speaks through lots.  Proverbs 16:33,  Proverbs 18:18

12.  God speaks through “fleeces” (signs)  Judges 6:36-40

13.  God speaks through prophetic enactment. Hosea 1:2, Acts 21:11

14.  God speaks with His eye.  Psalm 32:8

15.  God speaks with His footsteps.  Psalm 85:13

Since our hearts talk to us via our thoughts, every thought must be brought captive to the obedience of Christ.  2 Corinthians 10:5 We have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16  Everything we “hear” should be checked against Philippians 4:7-8  However He chooses to speak, we can be sure that He will be true to His Word. Matthew 7:7,8

We must have faith in God’s ability to speak,

not our ability to listen.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES FOR DAILY QUIET TIME

  • Practice the Presence of God

  • Take time to pray.

  • Be honest.

  • Trust Him for guidance.

  • Give God opportunity to talk back.

KEYS TO KNOWING THE WILL OF GOD

  • Agreement with Scripture

  • Conviction of the Holy Spirit

  • Providential Circumstances

When these three line up as one, we can be sure that the desire to know God’s will has come into alignment with His will just as a ship comes safely into the harbor by lining up with the guide buoys.

We must have faith in God’s ability to lead,

not our ability to follow.

GUIDELINES TO INTERPRETING AND SHARING WHAT GOD TELLS YOU

  • Ask God for the interpretation

  • Ask Him about the timing

  • Ask IF you are to share what He’s told you.

  • Ask WHEN you are to share.

  • Ask WHO you are to share it with.

  • Ask HOW you are to share it
