FORBEARANCE

The following is what God spoke to me in conference on July 3, 2003. It is given exactly as I heard it.

Forbearance is not just “putting up” with someone or a hard situation. Forbearance is dealing with a situation in the light of eternity. It is looking toward the future. It is taking the faith of today and applying it to tomorrow. Forbearance is patience, steadfastness and faith all rolled into one. Forbearance is what parents have with their children. It is what preachers have for their flock. It is what intercessors must have for governmental leaders. It is what the Jews did not have toward Jesus when He declared, “I and My Father are one.” (John 10:30) “Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.” (John 10:31) Without forbearance, you will always end up stoning someone.

Forbearance is not tolerance. Forbearance is an attitude of the heart. Tolerance is an attitude of the mind and the will. It can easily lead to stoning when patience runs out. That’s why the current politically correct push for tolerance doesn’t and isn’t working. Tolerance fades; forbearance grows. Notice that in Colossians, the command to bear with one another is in the context of having tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering and forgiveness. (Col. 3:12-13) That’s because forbearance is all wrapped up in Me. If you are clothed in Me and My love you will be able to forbear. When you don’t or can’t, that’s when you’ve taken off one or more of My garments of righteousness with which I clothe you.
